Reasons for Failure of Greenhouse Fixed Film Clamp and Systematic Solutions
The failure of the fixed film clamp system can directly lead to the loosening and tearing of the greenhouse film, and even cause structural damage in adverse weather conditions. Its failure modes can be mainly classified into the following categories and correspond to different solutions.
1、 Loose and slipping clamps
This is a common form of failure, manifested as the film hitting noticeably in the wind, and the clamping band can be easily pulled out of the lock.
Root cause analysis:
Improper initial installation: Failure to tighten with a one-on-one tool resulted in insufficient initial tension.
Lock failure: The spring pressure plate inside the lock is fatigued and loses elasticity due to long-term stress, or the ratchet structure is worn, resulting in ineffective locking.
Material creep: Under long-term tension and temperature cycling (thermal expansion and contraction), plastic film and metal clamp tapes themselves will experience slight long-term elongation, leading to system relaxation.
Model mismatch: The width or thickness of the clamping band does not match the slot design of the locking device, which cannot form a good bite effect.
Solution:
Immediate action: If looseness is found, a one-on-one tightening tool should be used immediately to re tighten. If the locking device is damaged or visibly worn, it needs to be replaced immediately.
Preventive measures:
Standardized installation: It is necessary to use a one-on-one tightening tool for initial installation to confirm that the tension is uniform and moderate.
Regular review: Within the sales cycle after installation and at the turn of each season, conduct multiple reviews and necessary adjustments to the tightness of the clamps to compensate for the initial creep of the material.
Quality control: Select locking devices with excellent quality and sturdy structure, and confirm that the clamping band and locking device are of the same reputation or compatible model.
2、 The clamp strap is broken
This form of failure is more dangerous and may cause the entire film to lose its stability.
Root cause analysis:
Excessive tension: During installation, excessive tension is applied in order to achieve "appropriate firmness", causing the stress on the clamping band to exceed its yield strength, resulting in internal damage or direct breakage.
Stress concentration: At the edge of the locking device, connection buckle, or sharp skeleton burrs of the clamping band, stress will be highly concentrated, and it is easy to break from these weak points under wind load and vibration.
Material defects and fatigue: The clamping band itself has uneven material, scratches, or manufacturing defects. Under long-term alternating wind loads, it will fracture due to metal fatigue.
Low temperature embrittlement: In severe cold environments, the toughness of ordinary steel will decrease, become brittle, and more prone to fracture.
Solution:
Immediate action: Cut a new clamp of the same model, use a one-to-one connection buckle to connect the broken part and re tension it. If the fracture point is close to the end, it can be directly re fixed.
Preventive measures:
Moderate tension: Following the principle of "tight but not excessive", it is advisable to cancel the film tapping and not blindly increase the tension.
Cancel stress concentration: Before installation, check the greenhouse frame and polish all burrs and sharp angles. Confirm that the locking device is installed smoothly and avoids hard bending.
Choose excellent materials: Priority should be given to galvanized steel strips or aluminum alloy clamps with higher toughness and low temperature resistance.
3、 Lock failure
The locking device is the core of the entire system, and its failure directly leads to the loss of function.
Root cause analysis:
Mechanical damage: worn teeth, broken spring plates or plastic deformation, loss of self-locking ability.
Material aging: Plastic fasteners will become brittle, lose strength, and eventually shatter under long-term exposure to ultraviolet radiation.
Corrosion: Metal fasteners exposed to high humidity and high chemical substances (fertilizers, pesticides) can corrode, causing the mechanism to jam or reduce strength.
Solution:
Immediate action: Once the locking device is found to be damaged, it needs to be replaced immediately. It is recommended to keep some locking devices of the same model in the greenhouse for emergency use.
Preventive measures:
Choose weather resistant materials: prioritize locking devices made of stainless steel or high-quality nylon (with UV resistant additives).
Regular inspection: Include the status of the locking device in the daily and regular maintenance checklist, paying important attention to its locking ability and appearance integrity.
4、 Corrosion failure
Mainly affecting metal material clamps and locking devices.
Root cause analysis:
Coating damage: During transportation, installation, or cutting, the surface anti-corrosion (based on actual reports) coating (such as galvanized layer) of the clamp strip is scratched, exposing the substrate and rusting from the damaged area.
Adverse environment: The high temperature and humidity inside the greenhouse, as well as corrosive substances such as fertilizers, pesticides, and plant sap, can accelerate the corrosion process of metals.
Solution:
Immediate action: For minor rusting, rust removal can be carried out and anti rust paint can be applied. If the corrosion is severe or has affected the structural strength, it needs to be replaced.
Preventive measures:
Caution in operation: During installation and handling, avoid dragging and collision, and protect the anti-corrosion coating (based on actual reports).
Choose high anti-corrosion (based on actual reports) grade products: choose clamps with thicker galvanized layers and better quality, or consider using aluminum alloy materials in highly corrosive environments.
5、 Resulting in damage to the covering material
The failure of the clamping system often indirectly causes damage to the film or PC board.
Root cause analysis:
Wear and tear: Relative motion occurs between the clamping band and the covering material due to vibration, and there is no buffer pad in between. Long term friction leads to membrane wear and perforation.
Fracturing: If the clamp is too tight, or if the clamp strip comes into hard contact with hard materials such as PC boards, during thermal expansion and contraction, excessive local pressure can cause the board to crack.
Tearing: Under strong winds, loose film will violently hit the skeleton or tear at the clamp fixing point due to stress concentration.
Solution:
Fundamental measure: Solve the failure problem of the clamp itself mentioned above.
Key preventive measures: It is necessary to install a one-to-one EPDM sealing strip or elastic pressure film tape between the clamp band and the covering material. This not only effectively prevents wear and fracturing, but also greatly improves the sealing performance of the greenhouse.
Summary:
To systematically solve the problem of fixed film clamp failure, it is necessary to form a closed-loop management of "material selection → installation → inspection → maintenance". Namely: Select components that match well, follow standardized installation procedures, implement regular inspection systems, and perform preventive maintenance in a timely manner for any issues. This is the fundamental way to protect the natural operation of greenhouse time.
